Oral Histories

This exhibit presents the new oral histories of the Hill Cumorah Pageant that were produced for this project in the spring 2022 semester. The interviews are organized roughly by Pageant role, or "calling"—pageant administration, costumers, prop makers, operations staff, and performers—although many individuals served in multiple callings over the years.

Students from HIST 326 and their instructor Daniel Gorman Jr. conducted all the interviews. They developed sets of questions, handled the recording equipment, and prepared metadata and transcripts to accompany the recordings. The majority of the interviews were conducted over Zoom, although a handful were conducted in person.

Due to storage limitations, the audio recordings themselves are not hosted on this website. Instead, they are embedded using Google Drive.

Special thanks go to Bentley Hutchings, a former member of the Pageant Presidency, for arranging introductions between the project team and members of the Latter-day Saint community.
